One of the most exciting things about AI right now is that it's no longer just for engineers in Silicon Valley. It's also for people like Jason Walls.

Jason is a Master Electrician from Kentucky, a member of IBEW Local 369. For the past ten years, he's been doing what electricians do every day: opening electrical panels, running load calculations, and helping homeowners install EV chargers.

And that's when he started noticing a problem. Many EV owners were being told they needed a $3,000–$5,000 electrical panel upgrade just to charge their car. But according to Jason, in many cases they didn't actually need one. The contractors quoting these upgrades often weren't even running the real calculation from the National Electrical Code (NEC 220.82).

So Jason decided to build something to fix it. There was just one catch — Jason isn't a developer. He's an electrician.

Jason built the entire system using Claude. Frontend. Backend. Payment system. Calculation engine. PDF generator. Deployment. Over 300 commits, Claude Code effectively became his development partner.

Jason works on ChargeRight after his day job. He's a solo founder building nights and weekends. His motivation isn't the typical startup story — he's a family man, a husband and a dad. After years of physically demanding electrical work, Jason wanted a path that would allow him to spend more time with his kids.

At a time when many people worry that AI will replace jobs, Jason's story shows another possibility. AI can also expand who gets to build. You no longer need to be a software engineer to create a product. You need deep domain knowledge, a real problem to solve, persistence, and the right AI tools.
